Seasick Steve Live and Uncut
The astonishing Seasick Steve is a wonder to behold performing live with his famous three string guitar. Seasick Steve on tour has often told the tale that he bought it for $75. On tour he uses a small wooden box as a stomper providing percussion for Seasick Steve’s music. It is decorated with a Mississippi motorcycle permit plate (“MC33583″), and a small piece of carpet.
Behind the nickname Seasick Steve is the real man Steven Gene Wold, born 1941. He describes himself as a “a song and dance man”, and plays the guitar and sings, mainly about his early life living rough and doing casual work. The nickname came about because Wold perpetually got sick on boats, and when asked about it he simply says “I get sick on boats, that’s it”
Wold made his first UK television appearance on Jools Holland’s ‘Annual Hootenanny’ BBC TV show (broadcast on New Year’s Eve 2006) where he performed a live rendition of “Dog House Boogie” on the ‘Three String Trance Wonder’ and the ‘Mississippi Drum Machine’. After that show his popularity exploded, as he explained in an interview:
“I can’t believe it, all of the sudden I’m like the cat’s meow!

Seasick Steve said in a statement: “I hope by making records like this, that it’ll make people want to hear music that’s recorded without the use of digital equipment, and that people’s ears can get a little rest from all that shit. But if not, at least it was nice for me. Me and computers do not see eye to eye.”
